Easily Fred Neil's most well-known song due to Harry Nilsson's sped-up hit single version (from the film Midnight Cowboy), "Everybody's Talkin'" is a true modern pop classic by any standard. Based on a sweet, descending guitar riff and a simple series of chords, it's an exercise in economy.

Everybody's Talkin' / Let It Be 45 rpm, Promo. By it was a thing for soul singers to cover pop hits and Bill Withers`s soul cover of Nillson`s pop cover of Fred Neil`s folkie original is not bad. The diminishing returns can be expected but they are not acute and Bill`s "Everybody`s Talkin'" is a good enough vehicle to survive.

Fred Neil hails from Florida. In the early s he appeared on the New York folk scene, teaming with Vince Martin for his earliest recordings but soon going solo. This was Fred's first recording on Capitol (original title: "Fred Neil"), and it's a showcase not only of his fine guitar strumming and arrangements but also of one of the richest 5/5(8).
